The twin communities of Tannum Sands and Boyne Island, separated by the Boyne River, are located approximately 25 kms south of the harbour city of Gladstone. The communities are linked, not only by road, but by kilometres of pedestrian and cycle paths which wind alongside the Boyne River, through parks and to the beachfront.<\/p>\n

Lifesavers patrol the sandy beach of Tannum Sands each weekend and all summer holidays. The award winning foreshore of\u00a0Millennium Esplanade<\/strong>\u00a0at Tannum Sands Beach is found just nine kilometres off the Bruce Highway and is well-used by local families as well as visitors. Information can be obtained from the local information centre in Ocean Street Tannum Sands.<\/p>\n

Canoe Point, popular for picnics and weddings alike, overlooks a sheltered cove near the river mouth.<\/p>\n

Wild Cattle Island, at the southern end of Tannum Sands Beach, is a National Park that can be accessed by boat, or even by wading through the shallow creek at low tide.<\/p>\n

Located on Boyne Island, a little beyond the town, Boyne Smelters produce aluminium for markets throughout the world.<\/p>\n
